Oregon has it all – this short trip just sees some of the highlights of the area around Bend. Painted Hills was the first day, and other spots in the John Day Fossil Beds area.

The following day was spent first at Newberry National Volcanic Monument, then Benham Falls, south of Bend, then up north of Bend to Smith Rock – and a meal and beer at Smith Rock Brewing Company too, in Redmond, Oregon.

Probably the closest we’ve been to Mt Rainier in all our years in Washington State on the way home – and a modern-day Stonehenge on the Columbia River – who new!
