Only a few minutes away from the site of my last blog post, Golden Gate Bridge, but feel like another world. A wonderful lagoon to walk around, a coastal trail with fantastic views along the coast in both directions, as well as a beach with breath-taking waves to sit and have my lunch. What more could I want? Birds, you ask? Yes, it has birds! Virtually the first bird I saw was one I had never seen before – and the Merlin app convinced me it was a Wilson’s Snipe. Just on the mud banks on the footbridge across to the beach.

After a walk along the beach I decided to do a loop of the lagoon. I had seen various birdlife, including a Belted Kingfisher as I drove up.

As well as the bird life, including another new one, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, the walk offered some elevated views back to the beach, and the breakers. I think there might be a person in that breaking wave? A few surfers about. Buffleheads, Pintails and Shovelers – they are real bird names, honestly.

Some birds I was more familiar with on the road side of the walk, and some bog alum flowers too. White-crowned Sparrow, Yellow-rumped Warbler, House Finch and Song Sparrow.

The next stage, and next blog post, was the walk along the coast trail to the North end of the Beach.
