The Glory Hole, Lake Berryessa, and a Trail Through Napa County

Started the day on a trail out to Linda Falls before heading over to the real reason for the trip — the Glory Hole at Monticello Dam, Lake Berryessa’s famous bell-mouth spillway, which only really puts on a show when the reservoir’s full enough to spill over.

Switched over to monochrome for a stretch — something about that swirling water suits black and white.

First views of the Glory Hole itself, drawing the water down in that strange, mesmerising funnel.

Back to colour for the rest of the afternoon, working the long lens for tighter shots of the spillway.

A last few before packing up — the light softening as the afternoon wore on.

Not a bad way to spend a February afternoon in Napa County.
